Proving all the rumours correct, Xiaomi has finally decided to enter the premium smartphone segment with its new Mi Note 2 – which is also the company’s most expensive phone to date. With an expected price tag of Rs 35,000 for the global version, Xiaomi is now knocking at the doors of the Android smartphone giant Samsung, and also Google with its newly launched Pixel series. Even while Samsung has pulled out the Galaxy Note 7, this leaves the Xiaomi’s Mi Note 2 phablet in competition with the Galaxy S7 Edge and the Pixel XL.
Xiaomi launched the Mi Note 2 in Beijing yesterday with a dual-side curved OLED 5.7-inch display and design similar to the Galaxy Note7. Samsung’s Galaxy S7 Edge features a 5.5-inch Quad-HD super AMOLED display, and the Pixel XL features an AMOLED display. The Mi Note 2 also features the largest battery of the three devices at 4,070 mAh, in comparison to S7, the Edge’s 3600 mAh battery and Pixel XL’s 3450 mAh battery.
the Mi Note 2 is expected to be priced close to Rs 35,000 in global markets, and is much cheaper compared to Samsung’s Galaxy S7 Edge with its Rs 50,900 price tag and the Google Pixel XL – still more expensive at Rs 57,000.
Xiaomi Mi Note 2: The Mi Note 2 just launched yesterday, and at least on paper – it seems to justify the price that Xiaomi is planning to launch it for. The phone comes with 6GB of RAM and features 128GB of storage. It is powered by a Snapdragon 821 processor (same processor as the Google Pixel XL), and has a battery capacity of 4070 mAh.
the Mi Note 2 also features the highest resolution camera of the three – a 22.56 MP rear camera sensor with EIS and 4K video recording capabilities. The phone will be launched in two variants – 4GB RAM+ 64GB of storage and 6GB of RAM+ 128GB of storage.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge: The Galaxy S7 Edge is the oldest smartphone among the three we are comparing today, and was launched earlier this year in February. With the unfortunate demise of the Galaxy Note 7, Samsung has started to aggressively market the S7 and S7 the Edge. With the Galaxy S7 Edge, Samsung nailed the perfect combination of design and specifications.
In our review of the phone, we called it 'Android perfection'. The display of the Galaxy S7 Edge will leave you in awe of the device, while also being more effective and improved from previous generation. Samsung Galaxy S7 edge also impresses with its camera thanks to the dual pixel autofocus and highly improved image sensor. The phone lasts 12 hours of heavy use while on 4G and its sheer performance is also hard to match.

Google Pixel XL: The newly launched Pixel XL is almost double the price of the Mi Note 2, and a decent some more expensive than the Galaxy S7 Edge as well. Pixel and Pixel XL are Google’s first attempt at creating their own hardware, even though we know that HTC has manufactured them.
The camera on the Pixel XL features Electronic Image Stabilisation (EIS) and makes for good overall shots. However, if you like to tinker around the camera settings you might end up being a little disappointed – as it does not have a manual mode as such. You still might be able to tinker around with exposure and white balance. We did however find that the Pixel XL was running out of juice quickly when you compare it to its battery size. The eye-watering price of the phone is also a thing to consider.

In our review we found that the phone is top quality, and the 4GB RAM and Snapdragon 821 processor make multitasking a breeze without any trouble. In fact, our reviewer found the phone much faster than her iPhone 6S and even a shade faster than the iPhone 7.
Xiaomi has a tough road ahead, with its new premium offering. The segment has been dominated by Samsung for quite some time now, but might have room for a really good smartphone at a cheaper price, just like the OnePlus 3. If the rumours around the new version of the OnePlus 3 are correct, the new OnePlus 3T might be coming with a Snapdragon 821 processor, and might be a much closer match to the Mi Note 2 in terms of specs and pricing than the Samsung and Google’s offerings.
