Acer has Announced the Liquid S1 5.7-inch smartphone at Computex 2013. The Android 4.2 handset features a 1280×720 pixel display and a quad-core 1.5GHz processor with 1GB of RAM.
ACCORDING to reports from Computex, Acer’s UI is virtually nonexistent, meaning you’re largely getting a stock Android experience. The replaceable battery pack is rated at 2,400 mAh and Acer claims it will last you a day of use. Onboard storage is 8GB and there’s support for microSD cards up to 32GB.
The back panel is matte finish plastic while an aluminum surround gives a bit of extra rigidity. Acer plans to bring the phone to a range of markets including the UK where it will retail for 329 Euros, Which is about £ 280.
One downside is a lack of 4G connectivity, but considering this is going to be a fairly cheap and cheerful phablet rather than something pegged for the premium end we doubtthat will deter many punters.
Rather than taking on Samsung’s Galaxy Note head-to-head Acer seems to be appealing to users who want a larger form-factor handset but do not want to pay a huge AMOUNT for the privilege.
That’s a strategy Samsung itself is adopting with the Galaxy Mega 6.3, but even here with a price tag of around £ 400 it’s a bit of a stretch for some wallets. Acer’s big problem is going to be visibility in the market space – it’s not a Particularly well-known brand and Particularly not for smartphones.
