We’ve been going through the recentchanges Samsung devices one by one and talkingabout Various Things That We Expect To See When They happ get updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop. Today, we’re going to ask Focusing on the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and using Samsung’s history of Android updates to DETERMINE what we expect this time around too.
Quiet Samsung
The first Thing That is Obvious Is that We Should not expect to hear any major update announcements from Samsung themeselves. There Could be a few leaks about the Note 2 and Its Lollipop update, but We Should not expect to hear news about it Directly from Samsung. The South Korean tech giant Has a history of staying very tight-lipped abouttheir Android updates and That makes a lot of sense. Even if They release theirfirst update, it’s only going to ask for one small country. So if Samsung Says That It Will be coming thisMonth, The Rest of the World Will still be waiting.
Staged Lollipop update rollout of NOTE 2
This leads us into our second expectation . We are expecting the Lollipop update for the Galaxy Note 2 To be a long and drawn-out process. This Means That The Samsung Will Be Releasing the update for one country at a time and waiting Until The update is finished in each country before moving on to the next one. This is what we’ll have observed in the past and this is what is going on right now with the Samsung Galaxy S5. While it is not out of the question to see the Samsung releasing an update in Multiple Countries at the sametime, They have Seemed to Be taking a slow and steady approach withtheir updates Lately.
Months Away
Since the Galaxy Note 2 is well past Samsung’s typical 24-month support cycle, we are expecting it to be One of the Very Last Samsung Devices To Receive Android 5.0 Lollipop. This Means That we probably will not see our first Note 2 Lollipop update Until well after the summer. It’s Possible That They Will update it after the Note 3 and Galaxy S4, but so far it Seems like Samsung Will Be Updating Their tablets Before the Note 2. Anything Could change, but even if it was updated beforehand Their tablets, We are still months away from seeing The First Lollipop release for the Galaxy Note is the second
Updates Into 2016
Since the Galaxy Note 2 Will Be One of the cargo Samsung devices to be updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop , We will most likely see the updates spillover into 2016. I mean, It’s Possible That we will not even see The First Note 2 updated to Lollipop Until 2016. However, I think That is very Unlikely. I suspect That The First updates Will start to happen in the winter months of 2015 and continue into 2016. Especially for the wireless carrier updates, since They tend to ask more delayed thwart than the rest of the updates.
Carrier Announcements
So, while the Samsung ice Typically silent abouttheir OTA Android updates, we do see at least one or two wireless carriers around the world Announcing Their update plan. We see this a lot from SFR in France and Vodafone in Australia. We will be doing our best to keep our ears to the ground So THAT WE CAN tell you Exactly When We hear an announcement from the various carriers around the world.
Delays
Eventhough These carriers like to keep Their Customers In The Loop When They have some new information, We Should not expect Those scheduled release dates to Be Set in Stone. As we’ll have observed thwart In the past, Delays happen all of the time. Sometimes we see things Fall Into Place at just the right time, but more Often than not, there are Delays of some kind. We Have to Remember That if a carrier comes across a bug During Their in-lab tests, They have to send the code back to Samsung and wait for a revision. This process can take weeks or even months, all depending on how critical and complicated The Bug ice.
