The Galaxy Note 3 is the big news of the day but That does not mean Samsung left out owners of older devices. Tucked away in the Galaxy Gear announcement was a quick mention of updates for the Galaxy Note 2 and the Galaxy S3. Samsung confirmed both devices would be getting an update to better support the Galaxy Gear in October.
It did not say Android 4.3 Jelly Bean explicitly, but we do knowthat Android 4.3 uses Bluetooth Low Energy and is better equipped to handle the Galaxy Gear smart watch than Google’s previous update, Android 4.2.
The Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 update will likely roll out in October.
Rumors have suggested That the Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note 2 would skip Android 4.2 Jelly Bean for Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and this Appears to be Samsung’s confirmation of That, however vague.
The company did not sacrifice a specified roll-out date for These updates only saying That They would be out in October. The updates will likely roll out to the international version first and then move to the carrier branded devices around the world. The U.S. Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 will more than likely be behind the rest of the world as carriers are typically slow to major Android updates.
Both devices Currently run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, an update That arrived with the Galaxy Note 2 out of the box when it arrived back in October and November. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has been running Android 4.1 since September.
