Samsung Galaxy Note 2 KitKat (Android 4.4.2) Update – The Story So Far … – G 4 Games

[NOTE] This Samsung Galaxy Note 2 KitKat article will be constantly updated with the latest findings so look for the bolded [UPDATE] paragraphs if you've been here before.

Android 4.4.2 has been out for many months and certain smartphones have already received their fair share of KitKat. Sadly, the process of getting an update ready for a top-tier Android device takes a while, despite the fact that flagship phones are on each manufacturer's top priority list when it comes to new OS versions.

In Samsung's case, last year's Galaxy S4 and Note 3 have already been updated to Android 4.4.2, but only in certain regions, so far. There are still plenty of units in queue and it may take a while before we can safely say that every Note 3 and SGS4 user has taken KitKat for a spin.

As such, chances are that it will take an even longer while for the Galaxy S3 and the Note 2 to receive the update, or, they might not receive the firmware at all. The international S3 might not be able to make the jump to Android 4.4.2 due to the lower amount of RAM, but what about the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 KitKat update?

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 KitKat (Android 4.4.2) Update: What We Know So Far

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 KitKat (Android 4.4.2) Update: What We Know So Far

We start off this short history lesson with what seemed to be a bit of good news, as earlier this month a leaked document suggested that the international Note 2 will be receiving Android 4.4.2 sometime within the next couple of months. Sadly, we are somewhat skeptical towards this particular leak, specifically because the Note 2?s model number was not listed correctly.

On the bright side though, we've recently stumbled across some pretty solid hints that KitKat is indeed on its way, when the Korean Note 2 model (SHV-E250) has been spotted in a GFXBench listing, boasting Android 4.4.2 under the hood.

For those of you wondering, this means that at least one Note 2 unit in Korea actually runs on Android 4.4.2, which in turn, leads us to believe that KitKat for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is currently in the testing stages of development.

Evidently, these events can't help us pinpoint the exact roll-out date for the update, as the testing phase could take anywhere between one / two weeks to a couple of months (or more). However, progress is good, even at a slower pace, and if Samsung is indeed testing KitKat for the Galaxy Note 2 in its homeland, then we can safely assume that, eventually, the same will happen for the international and US models as well.

[UPDATE] According to a Korean Galaxy Note 2 owner who has contacted Samsung's support, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 KitKat update will be released in mid to late April.

Are there any Note 2 users out there? Are you eagerly waiting for Android 4.4.2 to arrive? Don't hesitate to drop us a line below.
