Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4.2 KitKat Update Roll out Could Begin Later … – Android Geeks

Even though the Korean phone maker confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4.2 KitKat update will be rolled out later this year, the company failed to announce the ETA. Anyway, there are signs that Samsung will push the Android 4.4.2 update for Galaxy Note 2 in late April or early May.

Soon after Samsung officially announced that the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update will be issued for the Galaxy Note 2, several carriers confirmed that they will also push the update to their users. Australia's Opus was one of them saying they'll release it mid-April, but they subsequently announced the have pushed back the update to an unknown date.

The release date of the Android 4.4.2 update for Samsung Galaxy Note 2 came back in discussion after Korean publication Daum wrote that a customer service representative told them that the new firmware will be released mid-April, which checks out with the initial roll out date announced by Opus. Anyway, the representative was allegedly speaking about the update's release for the Korean market.

Furthermore French carrier SFR said they will make the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4.2 update available for download by the end of May.

It's not uncommon to hear that Korea is in the front line for receiving the new OS update, as Samsung is usually releasing new updates in their home-country first.

Because it's an incremental update, Android 4.4.2 KitKat for Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will arrive with quite a few changes and improvements. Besides the usual KitKat goodies such as white status bar icons, full screen immersive mode, cloud printing, color emoji support, full screen album art for the lockscreen, camera shortcut in lockscreen, better power management, and stronger security, the new firmware should also apply minor tweaks to the TouchWiz UI, bring updated native Samsung apps, improved Samsung Keyboard, and other such changes, most of them borrowed from the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3.

The new TouchWiz version that comes pre-loaded on the Samsung Galaxy S5 contains a lot of software improvements, but it's unknown when they will be made available for the likes of Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 3, or Galaxy Note 2, or if they are made available at all for the later one.

As usual, the new update will be rolled out in stages, meaning that the ETA may vary depending on region and carrier. As you may know, once your device will be eligible to receive the new firmware, a system update message will pop out in the notification area to let you know. It's also worth performing a manual check under Settings > More > About Phone > System updates > Check for updates, or to grab the USB cable, connect your Note 2 to the PC, and check for the new firmware through KIES.
