The Huron Women’s Soccer Team took on the Huron Parents Soccer Club (HPSC), in a grudge match, Tuesday night under the lights at Riverbank Stadium. For the Seniors In Both groups, this was absolutely, positively Their last game together.
The HPSC got off to a solid start When They pressed the Lady Rats hard Immediately after the snap. They took the ball downfield and quickly late it into the back of the net. Cleary, They were not going to just roll over. The HPSC then retreated into Purely defensive play, a look of Our Lady Rats have seen before. Both teams then struggled to Maintain any meaningful possession. The Lady Rats once again DISPLAYED The Same resiliency They have shown all year and came back in the 12 th minute with a goal of Their Own, Which They cleverly ricocheted off an HPSC defender. Unfortunately, once again officiating played too large a part of this game, as cat calls of “really? REALLY? “Went through the packed stands. Still, our ladies were not deterred When a PK was called by the referee in the 21 st minute for a very questionable handball. A lot of credit needs to go to the referee, as he was able to make the call whilst wiping off his coke bottle glasses. Regardless, the HPSC shanked the kick, and it actually did not make it all the way to the end line. The ball was cleared late and up the right sideline. The HSPC was Clearly too gassed to put up a meaningful defense at that point. Additionally, HSPC Numerous players were complaining That the tennis balls on the bottom of Their walkers were getting caught on the artificial turf. At this point, our ladies Proved that old age and treachery Does not Overcome Youth and Skill And they were able to penetrate the 15-20 defenders the HPSC had in the box for the final score of the first half.
Due to the lack of on-site defibrillators, the second half of the game was postponed indefinitely and teams were reassigned using the old count off 1-2-1-2 method. As it turns out, the members of Team 2, were a bunch of “not fair cheaters” and had lined up in Such a Manner That All the cool kids were on Their Side. Despite this Obvious retreat to grade school sportsmanship, team 1 DISPLAYED an enthusiasm unknown to mankind and took the match to a golden goal finish. Unfortunately, the golden goal went to two teams and the game was ended at 9:30 pm. Even as rumors circulated That team 2 players had spit on Their Hands, Team 1 still DISPLAYED good sportsmanship and lined up for a post-game handshake.
After the match, we caught up with coach Ewert. Ewert summed up as the evening FOLLOWS; “That was quite a display of something we saw there, that’s for sure.” Huron’s next match is January 4 th at Paragon Field in the Wide World Sports Center, When The Green team takes on the Gold Team . Both teams are expected to be 0-0.
