Owners of either the Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy Note 2 or Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will not be receiving the Android 4.4 updates following the OS release in November 2013, until later this summer.

Android 4.4.2 was first released for the public in November last year, and owners of Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 were the first to get it. Although non-Nexus device owners also got the update in due course, those owning Samsung smartphones and tablets did not get the update initially, but only earlier this year.

Samsung started rolling out the Android 4.4 KitKat update for Galaxy Note 3 in January, for Galaxy S4 in February and by the end of April for the Galaxy Note 2. The Android 4.4 KitKat update for Galaxy Note 3, was supposed to be the concluding and final upgrade, in the United States.

Recently, Australian carriers Optus and Telstra renewed their Android update schedules. Although Telstra has confirmed the release of its longed-for Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update, it will disappoint and not be available some time. According to Telstra, Samsung has not yet completed its test submission and but will do so around mid-June, postponing the release of the update until July 14.

However, Telstra is yet to confirm Android 4.4 updates for Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 2 or Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat and, hence, it is believed that these updates will be released even later, sometime after July.

The situation is the same with Optus. Initially, the carrier pointed to Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat releases in April, but, over time, they have been pushed back.

Rescheduling its update release date, the carrier said that its Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat updates won’t be available till mid-July.
