In the news this week: with the announcement of the Samsung Z as the first Tizen-based smartphone, we had a look at the new operating system competition between Samsung and Google. In a reader poll we also asked what you look for most in a new smartphone - ”processor and specs” came out on top with ”previous experience with manufacturer” lingering near the bottom. Loyalty apparently counts for nothing in the current smartphone climate. Let’s have a look at some of the bigger stories of the week…

Samsung Confirms Another Galaxy Note 2 KitKat Update for US – Gotta Be Mobile

Another Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat release has been confirmed for the United States though it's still not clear when this new Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update will be touching down for users.

Many weeks ago, Samsung USA confirmed that it would be delivering a Android 4.4 KitKat update to the Galaxy Note 2. The company was mum on specifics but at the time, we believed that the roll out would include all versions of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 in the United States which includes variants on AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, U.S. Cellular, and Verizon.

In late April, Samsung started pushing out the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update to owners in France. Several weeks later, Sprint became the first carrier in the United States to offer the upgrade when it rolled out its version of the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update. Sprint is typically first to major Android upgrades so the timing did not come as much of a surprise.

Since then, the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat roll out in the United States has failed to produce another upgrade for Galaxy Note 2 owners. And while carriers remain silent about the future, Samsung is slyly letting Galaxy Note 2 owners know that the update is coming at some point down the road.

In late May, the AT&T Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update made an appearance on Samsung's website ahead of its release. The appearance doesn't confirm an imminent release but it does confirm Samsung's plans to update the device with Google's latest update.

Today, we've spotted another Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 update lurking on Samsung's website. The appearance confirms yet another Galaxy Note 2 upgrade for the United

States. The U.S. Cellular Galaxy Note 2 is now listed as running KitKat on its product page. The device is currently running Android 4.3.

This is big for owners on U.S. Cellular because it means that the Android 4.4 KitKat update will be coming at some point down the road. We've never seen an update listed on Samsung's product pages ahead of time get cancelled so there is a very good chance that the U.S. Cellular Galaxy Note 2, like the Sprint Galaxy Note 2, will get Android 4.4.

The T-Mobile and Verizon Galaxy Note 2 still haven't seen their updates confirmed but it's clear that this roll out is going to touch all Galaxy Note 2 models in the United States. T-Mobile and Verizon typically don't announce release dates ahead of time which means that users will likely be in the dark as we push closer to release.

Sprint's Galaxy Note 2 roll out came well ahead of the curve. International carriers that keep their users in the loop have been targeting June for their Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat release though we've seen others like Optus push their ETAs back to July. Samsung's Android update roll outs often take months to complete and we could see Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 upgrade pushing out deep into the summer months.

When the updates do arrive, they will likely mirror what Sprint put aboard its Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade. Sprint's change log looks like this:

  • New Lock Screen Access
    • Media Controls – full-screen album art and media controls when listening to music
    • Camera Shortcut  – access the Camera application right from the lock screen
  • SMS App Chooser – select a default application for sending and receiving SMS text messages
  • Restyled Status and Navigation Bars – status and navigation bars are translucent and can sit on top of apps, along with simplified status bar icons
  • Consolidated Location Settings – location services are integrated and more detailed by new Location menu
  • Expanded Emoji Icons
  • Wireless Printing – supports printing over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
  • Prevention Information pop-up message is suppressed.
  • Samsung Knox 2.0

It's not clear if the updates will be Android 4.4.2 KitKat or Android 4.4.3 KitKat. Android 4.4.3 KitKat is Google's latest version of KitKat and an update that tackles a number of issues inside Android 4.4.2. The update has not been confirmed for the Galaxy Note 2 or any other Samsung smartphone.

Android KitKat 4.4 Update: Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4, Note 3, Note 2, KitKat 4.4.3 … – The Epoch Times

Samsung has been rolling out the Google Android KitKat 4.4 update since January 2014, but not all mobile devices have the update yet.

Google first announced the Android KitKat 4.4 in October 2013, and Samsung started releasing the update for the Note 3 in January 2014, the Galaxy S4 in February, and the the Note 2 and S3 in May.

Here is the current status of Samsung's Android KitKat 4.4 roll out.

Galaxy S3

The Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update has seen a piecemeal release so far.

In the United States, carriers Virgin Mobile, Sprint, and Boost have released the Android KitKat 4.4.2 update over the month of May.

U.S. Cellular, AT&T, and Verizon have yet to roll out Android KitKat 4.4 to their customers.

Outside the US, Rogers in Canada and Vodafone Australia have confirmed the update.

It is uncertain if Galaxy S3 users will get the recently released KitKat 4.4.3 update.

Galaxy S4

Most carriers in the United States have already rolled out the Android KitKat 4.4. update to their customers.

On June 6th, the AT&T Galaxy S4 Active Android 4.4 KitKat update was redeployed, about six weeks after AT&T halted its release. This relaunched

update includes copy and paste improvements, makes it easier to insert pictures and videos in messages or emails, allows camera app access from the lock screen, and improves general call reliability.

Internationally, Vodafone Australia will still roll out the update in June, while Aussie carrier Optus has delayed the update release to July.

Tesltra customers, however, will have to wait, as the carrier has not announced KitKat 4.4 update as yet. Also, C Spire and MetroPCS have yet to release the latest Android update.

Note 3

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update has fully rolled out in the United States and Canada.

The update has only recently be available to SM-N900 users in Chile, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, and Morocco, as well as the SM-7005 users in Singapore and Hong Kong.

Australian carriers Telstra and Optus will carry on rolling out the Android KitKat 4.4.2 update in July, while Vodafone Australia will push its update a month earlier in June.

Note 2

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is being released rather slowly, in particular, for the GT-N7100 and GT-N7105 models.

In the United States, Sprint is the first carrier to roll out the KitKat 4.4.2 update for their customers.

Vodafone Australia and French carrier SFR should roll out the update in June.

Australian carrier Optus will only push the update out in July.

Rogers in Canada and Vodafone Spain have confirmed that they will roll out the update, but neither have given a specific release date.

Android 4.4.3 Jelly Bean Update for Galaxy Note 2 by Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint – The Westside Story

As the year enters its mid phase, the tech grapevine revolves around an increasing number of speculations regarding Samsung's Android 4.4 KitKat update plans. Android KitKat was announced in the September of last year around the iPhone launch.

Google announced the Android 4.4 KitKat update in October together with a new Nexus 5 smartphone, after which the update was released for Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 10 and Nexus 7. Companies such as Samsung, LG, Motorola, HTC and Sony have released Android 4.4 KitKat updates.

Samsung-Galaxy-Note-II-with-S-Pen

At present, Samsung is rolling out Android 4.4 KitKat updates for Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy Note 3. These devices are among 14 Galaxy devices that are confirmed to receive the update.

The details regarding the updates for Samsung Galaxy Note 2—GT-N7100 update and GT-N7105 Android 4.4 KitKat update—are being surfaced slower than expected. Users in France and India have received the update; however, US is still awaiting any development on the front.

Sprint was the first US carrier to roll out the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4.3 update. The update rolled out at the end of last month brought about many changes to Android 4.4 features and Samsung Knox 2.0 as a security feature. Through this update, the Galaxy Note 2 will get to flaunt features such as improved battery life, wireless-printing support, full-screen album art, white status bar icons and stability fixes. Android 4.4.3 KitKat contains bug-fixing patches rather than more features than earlier updates.

Samsung recently updated its AT&T Galaxy Note 2 product page with KitKat listed as the current operating system. Samsung is known to confirm updates long before their arrival so it does confirm the update. T-Mobile, US Cellular and Verizon have maintained their silence over the update as has been noticed earlier when they have made official announcements a few days before the rollout.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Review, Update: Android 4.4.2 KitKat For Phablet … – KpopStarz

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 review, update: Owners of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 may need to wait a little more to get their upgrade to 4.4 KitKat. The tentative release of the new OS update for the phablet maybe around July, an Australian carrier notes.

Earlier, Gotta Be Mobile has said that the roll out of the 4.4.2 has began but at a very slow pace. The site noted that faster access to the new OS update maybe available around June, right before the Google I/O conference. New reports suggest, that it could be by July.

According to Breathecast, Australian carriers Optus and

Telstra renewed their update schedules. Telstra said that Samsung has not yet completed its test submission but will do so around mid-June, delaying the release of the updates until July 14.

One thing definite is that the OS will be available for Note 2 users. SamFirmware notes that there have been 11 Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat updates pushed out for the GT-N7100 model in May. There has also been an update for the GT-N7105 variant of the handset. GBM pointed out that the GT-N7105 is only available in Nordic countries.

Though the 4.4 KitKat rollout for the Note 2 has not been Samsung's best, it's still showing signs of life and it's expected that the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update will be pushed out to every Samsung Galaxy Note 2 model in every single region of the world.

The Android 4.4.2 KitKat and the upcoming Android 4.4.3 OS update is already being pushed and though the Note 2 has yet to complete the first update, it's still very much possible that it would be having the Android 4.4.2 and Android 4.4.3 as well very soon.

The unlocked version of Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is available from $ 350 to $ 400 (or more in some cases) from Amazon.com.

Android 4.4 KitKat Update: Samsung Galaxy S4, Note 2, Note 3 Release Dates … – BREATHEcast

Samsung Galaxy S4

(Photo : WikiMedia – Rafael Fernandez)

Owners of either the Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy Note 2 or Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will not be receiving the Android 4.4 updates following the OS release in November 2013, until later this summer.

Android 4.4.2 was first released for the public in November last year, and owners of Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 were the first to get it. Although non-Nexus device owners also got the update in due course, those owning Samsung smartphones and tablets did not get the update initially, but only earlier this year.

Like Us on Facebook

Samsung started rolling out the Android 4.4 KitKat update for Galaxy Note 3 in January, for Galaxy S4 in February and by the end of April for the Galaxy Note 2. The Android 4.4 KitKat update for Galaxy Note 3, was supposed to be the concluding and final upgrade, in the United States.

Recently,

Australian carriers Optus and Telstra renewed their Android update schedules. Although Telstra has confirmed the release of its longed-for Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update, it will disappoint and not be available some time. According to Telstra, Samsung has not yet completed its test submission and but will do so around mid-June, postponing the release of the update until July 14.

However, Telstra is yet to confirm Android 4.4 updates for Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 2 or Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat and, hence, it is believed that these updates will be released even later, sometime after July.

The situation is the same with Optus. Initially, the carrier pointed to Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat releases in April, but, over time, they have been pushed back.

Rescheduling its update release date, the carrier said that its Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat updates won’t be available till mid-July.

Galaxy S3, Note 2, Note 3, Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat Update Details – Gotta Be Mobile

As we push deeper into the year, we're starting to hear, and see, more details about Samsung's Android 4.4 KitKat update plans. Today, we want to take a close look at all of latest details regarding the Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy S3, and Galaxy S4 Android 4.4.2 KitKat and Android 4.4.3 KitKat updates.

It's a little hard to believe that Android 4.4 KitKat has been around since September of last year. In September, right around the iPhone launch, Google announced Android 4.4 KitKat. It left out the important details but the company's confirmation pointed to an announcement later in the year.

In October, Google announced the Android 4.4 KitKat update alongside a brand new Nexus 5 smartphone. A couple of weeks later, the Android 4.4 KitKat update was released for the company's Nexus devices, the Nexus 4, Nexus 10, and Nexus 7. The roll out also included an Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for the Nexus 5.

Since then, we've seen Android 4.4 KitKat dominate the landscape. Companies like LG, Motorola, Sony, HTC, and Samsung have pushed out Android 4.4 KitKat updates to their user base. Samsung in particular is now playing host to a massive Android 4.4 KitKat push that has enveloped many of its top devices.

In January, Samsung started pushing out the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update. In February, Samsung's Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update started to push. And since then, we've seen a number of other big time updates roll out. There is, however, still a lot of work left to be done.

Samsung is currently in the midst of several Android 4.4 KitKat roll outs though the four biggest include the Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update, the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update and yes, the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat updates. They are both still rolling out.

Over the past few weeks, we've seen a number of new details emerge and here, we breakdown everything there is to know about these four KitKat updates.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3

The Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.2 update is worth installing for most users.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update is still rolling out. Yes, it has finished up in places like the United States and Canada but there are still plenty of people waiting on Android 4.4 KitKat and its upgrades. Here's what we know.

We know that the update recently hit SM-N900 users in Chile, in Saudi Arabia, in Taiwan, and in Morocco. We've also heard that it has hit the SM-7005 in Singapore and in Hong Kong. Those who own these models in these regions will want to check to see if an update is available because it probably is.

As for missing updates, it's looking like the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat release will stretch into the summer. Both Telstra and Optus, Australian carriers, say that the update could roll out in July. Optus is a little more generous and claims that its updates could land in June but given that it hasn't received the update from Samsung, this is far from concrete.

Vodafone Australia says that it plans to push its Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat updates in June though a specific date still hasn't been given to customers. These are just a few of the stragglers (most carriers do not communicate) and it would appear that the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update will push on deep into the summer.

It's still not clear if Samsung and its lagging carrier partners will push Android 4.4.2 KitKat or the new Android 4.4.3 KitKat update but users should assume that Android 4.4.2 KitKat will come first.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2

Samsung's Galaxy Note 2 is in a much different position. Its Android 4.4 KitKat update is far more fresh than the Galaxy Note 3?s and thus, it less traveled. The GT-N7100 update and GT-N7105 Android 4.4 KitKat updates are both rolling out extremely slowly though we have started to see new details pop up in recent weeks.

At the tail end of last month,

Sprint became the first U.S. carrier to roll out the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4.2 KitKat update. The update delivered a number of changes including Android 4.4 features and even Samsung Knox 2.0 for added security. Sprint's update joined a smattering of Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat updates and it's clear that the big push has yet to come.

Most devices remain on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean though the future is looking bright. Vodafone Australia and French carrier SFR both say that they plan to roll the update out in June. Optus was forced to push its ETA back to late July which means that there is a very good chance we'll see the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update push well into the summer.

Rogers in Canada continues to maintain that it will roll out a Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update "soon" but it still hasn't offered any concrete release information. Vodafone Spain also confirmed the update for arrival.

In the U.S., carriers remain silent. However, we recently saw Samsung update its AT&T Galaxy Note 2 product page with KitKat listed as the current operating system. This doesn't mean that a roll out is imminent but it's the closest thing we have to a confirmation.

It's still not clear if devices will get Android 4.4.2 KitKat or Android 4.4.3 KitKat though we suppose we'll find out in the weeks ahead as the update moves on.

Samsung Galaxy S4

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat is still rolling out to users, four months after the roll out first began. And while it has landed for a number of big name variants, there are still plenty of people waiting for Android 4.4 KitKat and its features.

Samsung's GT-i9500 Android 4.4 KitKat update recently landed for users in Chile, Mexico and Columbia. As for the GT-i9505, the LTE model, we haven't seen any recent updates emerge.

In the U.S., the AT&T Galaxy S4 Active Android 4.4 KitKat finally started redeploying on June 6th, six weeks after Samsung and AT&T halted its roll out. Here is what it has on board.

  • Android 4.4 OS upgrade (http://www.android.com/versions/kit-kat-4-4/)
  • Copy and paste improvements
  • Easier to insert pictures and videos in email or messages
  • Camera app accessibility from the lock screen
  • Call reliability improvements

There are several other devices that should be in the mix for June and July. Vodafone Australia still seems committed to roll outs in June while fellow Aussie carrier Optus says that it has been forced to push its updates back from June to July. That's better than Tesltra, a carrier that still hasn't even announced Android 4.4.

We have also yet to see the update land for the C Spire or MetroPCS versions of the Galaxy S4. It's not clear when those updates will be arriving though we'd be shocked if they failed to roll out in June given how long users have waited. Perhaps the Galaxy S4 Active roll out will spark some movement. Perhaps not.

Samsung Galaxy S3

The Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update has been rolling out since early May but we still have not seen Samsung make a strong push. There are a few scattered updates available but we simply have not see a widespread roll out emerge. June could be the month but that remains uncertain.

In the past few weeks, we've seen the Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update land for the Sprint, Boost and Virgin Mobile variants in the U.S. We also thought that the U.S. Cellular Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update was available, the carrier and Samsung announced it, but it looks like it may have announced it prematurely. U.S. Cellular's website lists it with Android 4.3 and Samsung's website doesn't list it with Android 4.4.

The other U.S. bound Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat updates remain unconfirmed and out of sight for the moment. We do expect carriers like AT&T and Verizon to push out updates in the future though.

Elsewhere, we've seen Rogers in Canada confirm the update and we also just recently saw Vodafone Australia confirm the update. Vodafone is one of the first international carriers to confirm the arrival though it does not offer any kind of a time frame. Other international carriers have yet to detail their plans.

With Android 4.4.3 KitKat now floating around, Galaxy S3 owners are wondering if that's what they'll get instead of Android 4.4.2. And while that's possible, it remains unconfirmed.

Galaxy Note 3 & Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 Releases Pushed Into Summer – Gotta Be Mobile

Several Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Samsung Galaxy Note 2, and Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat updates have been pushed to the summer meaning the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update, at the very least, will still be rolling out six months after it was first released.

Back in November, Google released the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update to the public for the first time. The update, which landed for Nexus 5, Nexus 4, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 users in November, pushed out to owners of non-Nexus devices in the weeks after. And while Samsung wasn't involved n the initial round of Android 4.4 KitKat updates, the manufacturer asserted itself in a big way at the beginning of the year.

In January, Samsung started pushing out the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update. In February, the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update started to push out to users. By late April, the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update and several other upgrades were rolling out. And in early May, the Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update, expected to be its final upgrade, was released inside the U.S.

All four of these updates are still rolling out including the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat upgrades which have moved into their fifth and fourth months respectively. And while Samsung has made significant progress, it's clear that there is still a long way to go for these two updates and the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 upgrades.

Australian carriers Optus and Telstra recently updated their Android update schedules. Telstra finally confirmed its long awaited Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update but unfortunately, the update isn't right around the corner. The carrier says that Samsung has delayed its test submission until mid-June

which puts the update on target for a release in and around July 14th.

The carrier still hasn't confirmed Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 2 or Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat updates so those updates could still be far off in the distance, perhaps, beyond the month of July.

Optus is in a similar boat. While the carrier initially pointed to Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat releases in April, the carrier has, over time, pushed back its ETAs.

Yesterday, the carrier updated its schedule to reflect changes made to all three updates. The carrier now says that its Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat updates won't land until mid-July, that its Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat updates won't hit until mid-June or early July and that its Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update won't push until mid-to-late July.

Samsung has not made any of these updates available to Optus which means that there is a potential for these ETAs to be pushed back even further into the year. It's also not clear if these updates will be Android 4.4.2 KitKat or Android 4.4.3 KitKat, the latter of which is Google's brand new KitKat update.

What's interesting is that the Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update remains missing in action at both carriers. The Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update is pushing to LTE versions of the device and we've already seen it arrive for a number of carriers in the U.S. And while the update will land for more U.S. carriers, international carriers remain quiet about the prospects.

If these carriers do plan to roll out the Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update, it may be awhile before the updates roll out to their users.

Google is rumored to be coming out with a brand new Nexus 8 tablet later this year and new Nexus hardware is always accompanied by new Android software. Rumors have pointed to the arrival of an Android 4.5 update and it's possible that some Samsung devices will still be waiting for Android 4.4 KitKat as a new Android update emerges. Only time will tell.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 Android 4.4, Android 4.4.2 KitKat Guide … – International Business Times AU

Sprint has just released the Android 4.4 KitKat update to its Samsung Galaxy Note 2 users. Users can either choose to update via the OTA or manually. Similarly, the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for Samsung Galaxy S3 has also started rolling out. US subscribers can now update to the latest KitKat. The release of the firmware depends on the carrier and region. Some subscribers may receive the update sooner than others.

According to Android Geeks, Android 4.4.2 KitKat has started rolling out to Samsung Galaxy S3 US cellular variant. While the carrier has not released an official announcement about the firmware, Android Geeks reported that there have been Samsung Galaxy S3 users who reported about getting the firmware notification.

Users can check their devices for firmware updates if they have not received any news. Similar to other Android updates, the roll out is most likely carried out in stages. Some users may have already received the notification while others have yet to receive it. Soon as the update is available, people can get the OTA of the OS. There should be a system update message prompting the user to proceed with installation.

Samsung leaves no phone behind. Well okay, it does, but not all the time. I mean, certainly not a flagship device… usually. At any rate, the Galaxy Note II on Sprint is getting bumped up to Android 4.4 as we speak. Isn’t that nice?

The changelog for version L900VPUBNE2 is not terribly descriptive – OS upgrade to Android 4.4 (KitKat). That’s all we get. It will roll out to all phablets in the coming days, but you might be able to pull it manually by checking in the system menu. Enjoy this update. Odds are it will be the last one the Sprint Note II sees.

New Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat Update Spotted for U.S. – Gotta Be Mobile

A new, unreleased Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update has been spotted ahead of its release, just days after the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat release started inside of the United States.

In late April, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update started rolling out to users in France. Days later, the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat release began in India. Since then, we've seen several other Android 4.4 KitKat updates reach Galaxy Note 2 owners but the majority of them remain tucked away behind the scenes in testing.

At the tail end of last week, Sprint became the first U.S. carrier to push out the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update. The roll out did not come as much of a surprise given that Sprint has been first to just about every major Android update for every major Samsung Galaxy smartphone. It was first to the Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat updates as well.

Sprint won't be the only U.S. carrier to push out the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update. U.S. carriers remain silent but we've seen new details emerge today that point to an impending release for one of the major Galaxy Note 2 variants in the U.S.

Samsung's website often confirms updates ahead of their arrival and that's exactly what it has done today for owners of the AT&T Galaxy Note 2. We have spotted the AT&T Galaxy Note 2 listed with Android KitKat on Samsung's product page. While this doesn't point to an imminent release it does point to an arrival in the future.

Advertisement:

Of course, there is a small chance that the update could arrive in the near future. Earlier this month, the U.S. Cellular Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update appeared on its product page just days before its release to the public. And while the same thing could happen here with

the AT&T Galaxy Note 2, nothing is confirmed.

This is only the second Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update that has appeared for the U.S. The T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular and Verizon versions of the update have yet to make an appearance. All three updates are expected to land at some point in the future though American carriers are known for keeping their cards close to their chest.

Other carriers don't have that problem. Rogers in Canada says that it will be pushing out the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update in the near future. Optus and Vodafone in Australia both have pegged the update for June. Same goes for French carrier SFR. None of these carriers are talking about specific release dates because specific release dates depend on internal testing.

Keep in mind, there is a chance that these updates could slip deeper into the year. Optus and Vodafone have yet to receive the update from Samsung. Carrier testing often takes a few weeks and there is always a chance that something could come up. June only servers as an Estimated Time of Arrival and not as a concrete release window.

AT&T's Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat should look at lot like the Sprint Galaxy Note 2 KitKat update that landed last week. Here is what that update had on board:

It's still not clear if Android 4.4 KitKat represents the last update for the Galaxy Note 2. The device is approaching its second birthday and Samsung typically keeps its devices updated for two years before kicking them to the curb.

Galaxy Note 2 to get Android 4.4 KitKat – Load The Game

It seems Samsung got stuck in the "update" mode this year and it's continuing the job by rolling out Android updates for its older devices. The company tested the 4.4.3 version on the Galaxy S4 and S5 not long ago, then it updated its S4 Active with 4.4.2 KitKat. Earlier this year, in March, to be more exact, the company also updated the Galaxy Note 3 with the latest version on Android. So in order to maintain its position as one of the leaders of the phone market, Samsung decided to expand the updating process and reach to the older devices too. Samsung announced that an Android update will be rolled out for the Galaxy Note 2 and gladly, kept its promise.

Sprint's Galaxy Note 2 will be the proud owner of the Android 4.4 KitKat starting

today. Along with this update, the Galaxy Note 2 will get all the "sweets" the Android 4.4 KitKat has to offer. We're talking about improved battery life, wireless-printing support, full-screen album art, white status bar icons and many more. The Note 2 wasn't the only one to receive a Android KitKat update, the Galaxy Mega 6.3 also got it share of goodies. After the latest version of KitKat was rolled out to the international version of the Galaxy S4 Active earlier this week, the Mega 6.3 got the same update today.

Unfortunately, there is a problem with this type of updates. As I've mentioned before, the update was rolled out for Sprint's Galaxy Note 2, so it might take some time before all owners receive it. Sprint is the only carrier that rolled out the KitKat update until now, and it's not sure when other carriers will follow its steps. Meanwhile, there are a couple of thing you can do if you own a Note 2 and you're looking for an update. One thing would be to connect the device to Samsung Kies and check for an update. Or you can go to the device's settings and manually check if there are any updates available, if you don't see the OTA update.
