Test: Samsung Galaxy Note 4 – Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet

When the first Galaxy Note appeared here at the office was open goal to joke about the giant phone – how funny it looked to hold it to your ear and pretend to talk, about how impossible it was to have it in your pocket in a convenient way, how perverse it was to have a tablet that you could make calls.

But as the screen sizes increased in androidvärlden have the Galaxy Note has become an increasingly less odd bird. The first generation had a screen of 5.3 inches. In comparison, Samsung’s latest flagship Galaxy S5, a screen of 5.1 inches and Sony’s Xperia Z3 boasts 5.2 inches.

Even though the Note 4, with its display of 5 , 7 inches, is larger than the original so seems it does not seem so ridiculous great. Samsung is definitely up and sniffs at the upper limit of the size of a phone can be and still be comfortable to use.

But before folding screens become reality so must those who want a large screen to accept a large phone . And unlike many other phones so hymlar not Note 4 with its size. It is a great phone and it is sold as a great phone.

The screen dominates obvious reasons the front of the phone. It is also the phone’s strongest card. The latest generation of Samsung’s “Super AMOLED technology” provides excellent contrast and very good print in color. With a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, the image becomes extremely sharp, although looking absurdly close. The only real downside is that the image deteriorates quite a lot if you look at it at a sharp angle from the side.

Another reason to choose Note 4 is that it is one of the few phones with stylus, this accessory before Apple iphone introduced capacitive screens which are controlled using the fingertips were standard on smart phones. Note 4 is thus the perfect phone for those who dream back to Ericsson’s old P800, but Samsung has actually managed to make it usable also for others.

The pen provides better precision than fingers . Direct when you pull it out of the phone, you can start notepad and other tools. But the most impressive is that Samsung actually managed to get a really good interpretation of handwriting. Even my disjointed series of murders daub converted in most cases to exactly what was intended. Something that the undersigned’s better half can not do in anything like the same extent. Pretty impressive, although it is hardly easier than using the keyboard to type.

To use the stylus to divide the screen in different apps, however, is just as messy as it sounds, although there may be occasions where it is a good idea in theory.

Under the hood sits latest version of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon platform, called 805. That means a new processor with four cores at 2.7 GHz and GPU Adreno 420. Galaxy Note 4 is the first phone in Swedish stores with this platform and since Qualcomm acquired a strong position as the market leader it means Note 4 is the fastest phone that you can get at the moment.

Exactly how much utility that has the extra computing power goes, however, to ponder. Anyway, flowing mostly on well and it will hardly be possible to find something in the Google Play Store that presses Note 4th to the very utmost.

The Samsung has taken the sharpest hardware they could get , paired it with what is perhaps the best screen sitting in a cell phone and sat in a shell that is among the more substantial the company achieved. The camera is also a step forward compared to its predecessor, with pictures that stands up well to the competition.

All in all, it should mean that the Galaxy Note 4 is a spectacular phone. But there is something not quite right. First, it is Samsung’s own shell on Android that pulls down the overall impression, it’s not particularly stylish or convenient to use compared to the original Android. You also can not escape the fact that the stylus is still something of a gimmick. For although there are practical uses for it, it’s as if someone at Samsung’s development department looked at it where the phone with big screen and wondered what could be done to justify the big screen and came up with this brilliant idea to take back pen from ancient smart phones.

It is simply pretty hard to see who is actually going to buy a Galaxy Note 4. For although it is in many ways a great phone , with excellent screen strongest card, so I can not think of a better answer than – those who really want a bit larger phone than most others.
