Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat Update Pushed Way Back – Gotta Be Mobile

One of Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat updates has been pushed back close to the fall.

Since January, Samsung has been pushing out Android 4.4 KitKat updates to many of its top devices including the Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 3, and Galaxy Note 2. The company has made steady progress pushing out Android 4.4.2 KitKat to a number of variants in a number of regions around the world including the United States where the update is available for all four of these mainstream devices.

However, there is still work to be done. Samsung still owes Android 4.4 KitKat updates to a number of big name devices including variants of the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2. And while some of those updates appear to be on the horizon, we're starting to see some unreleased updates pushed back close to the fall.

Australian carrier Telstra today released an updated Android update schedule, a schedule that details a number of its missing Android updates including the Android 4.4 KitKat update for its Galaxy Note 2 4G. According to Telstra, "Samsung have further delayed test submission to 15 August" which in turn has pushed back the update's ETA to September and more specifically, September 15th.

September 15th is an extremely generic ETA and it could be that the update rolls out before or after that date. Everything depends on Samsung's testing and the testing that Telstra will ultimately have to perform to ensure the update is ready for public consumption. Testing is extremely unpredictable and updates often encounter delays. A delay of nearly two months though is pretty rough, even by Android standards.

It's not clear how this delay will affect other carriers that are in the same boat. Optus and Vodafone have yet to push out their Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat updates and neither has provided concrete details about its release. French carrier SFR, which says that it plans to push out the update in early August, has not relayed any news about a delay.

T-Mobile is the only carrier in the United States that's yet to roll out a Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade and it's still not clear when the carrier plans to make the upgrade available. T-Mobile typically does not confirm updates ahead of time and instead confirms them on the day of their release. In other words, T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2 owners may not get a heads up before the Android 4.4 KitKat update touches down.

At this point, we assume that these carriers are working on Android 4.4.2 KitKat for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Samsung has yet to confirm Android 4.4.3 KitKat or Android 4.4.4 KitKat updates for its Galaxy devices and it seems content to roll out Android 4.4.2 KitKat despite the presence of the new versions.

Android 4.4.3 KitKat and Android 4.4.4 KitKat represent crucial bug fixes for Google's Android software. And with Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3, and Galaxy Note 2 users complaining about a number of Android 4.4.2 KitKat problems, users are starting to wonder if they'll get Android 4.4.3 KitKat or Android 4.4.4 KitKat like other top Android smartphones.

With Android L looming in the distance, it's possible that Samsung will shift its attention to Google's upcoming update, expected to arrive sometime later this year alongside new Nexus devices. Android L, unlike Android 4.4 KitKat, is a major Android update that features changes to the UI in addition to brand new features.

While Samsung's rivals have confirmed Android L updates, Samsung remains silent about upcoming Android L updates. Newer devices like the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 3 should get the update down the road though that remains unconfirmed. We should see details start to trickle out as we move closer to the fall and the Android L release date.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4.2 KitKat Update rolls out; Managers return … – Ecumenical News

Dimensions of Samsung Galaxy Note 2.PHOTO: Samsung Official Website

Android 4.4.2 KitKat update continues for a number of Samsung devices including Galaxy Note 2.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 was launched in August of 2012 and was initially powered by Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

iDigital Times reported that 4.4.2 can now be installed for international version (GT-N7100) model of the second generation of Galaxy Note.

The site also provided methods on how to manually install the OS in case a user encounters difficulty with the new OTA because of rooted or customized device.

Android 4.4.2 KitKat brings features such as cloud printing, NFC tap-to-pay support, all-white icons within the status bar, full screen album art and the inclusion of a camera shortcut on lockscreen.

The first Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for the smartphone began in France via Kies PC companion software in April.

Users who will run into issues when installing Android updates are advised to join Android Central forums to get support and help from expert members of the community.

While rivals are already updating to Android 4.4.3 and Android 4.4.4 KitKat, some Samsung devices are still pushing for the Android 4.4.2 upgrade.

This adds to frustration of some users, consequently, to the company which is already burdened by profit losses for three consecutive quarters and halting business with Chinese partners due to child labor issues.

In a heroic move, around 200 managers of Samsung Electronics’ mobile division voluntarily returned bonuses as a way to take responsibility for the decline in earnings and slow market growth of the world’s largest smartphone maker.

According to Reuters’ sources, returned bonuses would amount to $ 3 billion won or $ 2.92 million.

This gesture is common in South Korea’s corporate realm, where senior leaders would take similar steps when company or department’s performance dips.

Samsung Galaxy S5 vs Galaxy Note 3 vs Note 2 – Best Prices and Specs … – The Fuse Joplin

The Galaxy S5 was released in April, competing with Samsung's Note 3 and Note 2 in terms of specs and features. But honestly, in our opinion, the S5 smartphone is like a diamond, while its siblings are some stones with a lower value. And you'll agree with us, in case you haven't checked out these devices yet.

Awesome Design

Many of Samsung's devices are made of polycarbonate plastic material, and the Note isn't an exception. The cheap appearance doesn't convince you to buy the phablet, but if you'll ignore this aspect and take into consideration its other advantages, the Note 2 is a great deal. However, Samsung changed the aspect of its successor entirely, introducing the faux leather back cover to make it feel more elegant. But the S5 is better looking than both of the phablets, having a rear perforated design.

Sizes

The Note 2 and the Note 3 are about the same sizes. So, the Note is measuring 151×80.5x 9.4mm and it weights 182grams, and the Note 3 is measuring 151.2×79.2×8.3mm and it's 14grams lighter. The Galaxy S5 it's easier to hold in one hand, because it's shorter and narrower, measuring 142×72.5×8.1mm and weighting 145grams.

How durable they are?

All three smartphones' displays are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass, only that the S5 and the Note 3 us a newer version of this material, which is more resistant. In addition, the S5 is water and dust resistant, so you can go to scuba diving without worrying that your smartphone will be killed by a few splashes of water.

Internal memories

Both the Note 2 and the Note 3 come with three variants of internal storage – 16 and 32GB expandable up to 64GB, plus a 64GB variant. The S5 has 16GB and 32GB variants of internal storage – which can be expanded up to 128GB.

Samsung Galaxy S5 vs Galaxy Note 3 vs Note 2 2 Samsung Galaxy S5 vs Galaxy Note 3 vs Note 2 Best Prices and Specs Comparison

Displays

All three devices are equipped with Super AMOLED displays, but of different sizes: he Note 2 has a 5.5inches display with a resolution of 720x1280pixels and 267ppi. The Note 3's display is bigger – 5.7inches, and the resolution was increased to 1080x1920pixels, while the pixel density was increased to 386ppi. The S5 has a much smaller display of 5.1inches, with a resolution of 1080x1920pixels and an incredible pixel resolution of 432ppi. The S5's display is simply amazing.

Cameras

Between the three, the Galaxy Note 2 has the weakest rear camera, which has a resolution of 8MP. The Galaxy Note 3 has a 13MP primary camera with many useful features, but the S5 outpaces its siblings with the 16MP camera, which features a faster autofocus. With the S5's camera, you can take the shot and then pick a point of focus, and the rest of the image will be blurred. Plus, the S5 shows you HDR previews. The S5 and the Note 3 shoot 4K videos, while the Note 2 supports only 1080p video recording.

S Pen

Only the Note 2 and Note 3 come with an S Pen stylus which is used to write notes or draw on the screen. In addition, the Note 3 has the Air Command feature with which you have quick access to all the S Pen features.

OS

The S5 runs on the Android 4.4.2 (KitKat) version and it receive updates for the next two years. The Note 2 came loaded with Android 4.1.1 (Jelly Bean) OS, which was upgraded to the 4.4.2 (KitKat) version, which happened also with Note 3's Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) OS. But we'll see what surprises Samsung will offer us in the near future.

Batteries

The Note 2 has a Li-Ion 3100mAh battery, the Note 3 is kept alive by a better Li-Ion 3200mAh battery, but the S5 needs only a Li-Ion 2800mAh battery to last long enough.

Prices

All three Samsung devices can be found on amazon.com at the following prices:  the Note 2 16GB variant – 375 dollars, the Note 3 Samsung 4G LTE 16GB variant – 580 dollars and the S5 16GB variant – 585 dollars.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 2 – Specs and Prices Review – The Fuse Joplin

The Samsung Galaxy Note line up makes up the Samsung series of stylus phones.

Both the Galaxy Note 2 and Note 3 use the Android OS and incorporate the stylus function that allows you to draw and write more naturally than most other phones.

How exactly does the Galaxy Note 2 compare to the Galaxy Note 3? With the latter being the latest version on the Note series. Is an upgrade to the Note 3 worthwhile, or should you stick to the Note 2? There is only one way to find out.

Comparing the Note 2 to the Note 3

The Design

The Note 3 comes with a plastic rear with a leather effect finish that is 8.3mm thick and weighs 168g. On the other hand, the Note 2 comes with a plastic rear with a glossy finish that stands at 9.4mm in thickness and weighs 183g.

The Galaxy Note 3 has a larger screen compared to the Note 2, but the Note 3 is narrower and lighter in weight. When you hold and place these phones side by side, you will clearly see the variance in size and weight. However, the Note 2 and 3 are remarkably thin and lightweight when you imagine the features they come with.

Samsung has altered the design slightly with the Note 3. This is evident with the leather effect rear that has tasteful fake stitching on the sides. While the Note 3 has an easier grip, the build of this phone does not have much difference to that of the Note 2.

The Screen

The Galaxy Note 3 comes with a 1080p, super AMOLED 5.7 inch, and 386ppi screen while the Note 2 comes in a 1280 x 720 pixel super AMOLED 5.5 inch, 267ppi screen. As a tradition, each Note upgrade phone comes with a 0.2 inch increase in screen size. However, size is not the only improvement. The Note 3 also comes with a higher screen resolution. Even with the difference in resolution, the sharpness has not changed much, but both phones offer exceptional contrast and vibrant colors. They also offer the ability to customize color for a natural look on an OLED screen.

In the screen department, the Note 3 edges the Note 2, which is understandable since it is an upgrade of the Note 2.

The S-Pen

Both Note 2 and Note 3 feature a plastic pen that has a single button, push-in tip and Wacom digitizer. However, there are significant software improvements in the way the stylus pen on Note 3 works compared to that of the Note 2. However, the hardware remains the same in both phones.

Both phones make use of a lightweight, one-button plastic stylus pen that can be used to operate various features in the phone.

The Software

The Note 3 comes in an upgraded Android 4.3 with TouchWiz version while the Note 2 comes with the Android 4.1 with TouchWiz interface. The TouchWiz interface is colorful and great to look at, and it also comes packed with additional features. The newest features include IR transmitter and air gestures allowing you to use the Note 3 to control your TV. It's a universal remote controller. The 4.3 Android OS version offers better security and also supports Bluetooth smart.

Other Features

Other features include the capacity to expand the memory on both phones. There is a difference in the camera pixels with the Note 3 coming in with higher MPs than the Note 2. There is also an improvement in RAM on the Note 3 which comes with the snapdragon 800 quad-core, 2.3GHz and 3GB RAM with Adreno 330 GPU while the Note 2 comes in quad-core, 1.6 GigaHertz CPU, with a 2 GigaByte RAM.

Pricing

The factory unlocked 16 GB Samsung Galaxy Note 2 carries a price tag of $ 379.99 whereas the unlocked 32 GB Samsung Galaxy Note 3 costs about $ 539.85.

Conclusion

The Galaxy Note 3 is a good upgrade of the Note 2 in most aspects. With a Note 3, you get more power, better resolution, a larger screen and great stylus function.
